IBSC 121 Opus Taylor

Tonight we listen to Jono Smith's current band Opus Taylor.  This is  a show they did last month at the Prairie Meadows Casino and Racetrack.  They are a fun band that plays mostly rock, and some blues.  The band features Phil Porter on vocals and acoustic guitar, Scott White on drums, Ted Heggen on bass and vocal, Bill Mogolov on acousic and electric guitar, Dr. Lori Ancona on keys and vocals, and  Jono Smith on guitar and vocal.

IBSC 120 Bob Dorr, Molly Nova, and the Blue Band LIVE Studio 3

Tonight we listen to the Blue Band live at studio 3 sometime in the mid to late 90s.  This is a recording off a VHS tape, so there is a slight warble at the begining, but it ok ten seconds in.  The show features Bob Dorr on vocal and harmonica, Molly Nova on bass, violin, and vocal, Jeff Petersen on guitar and vocal, Dan Magarrell on sax, guitar and vocal, Ellery Temple on Keys, bass, and vocal, Bryce Loshman on drums.

IBSC 115 Blues history, politics and religion

Tonight we have a discussion of Blues its history, as well as how politics and religion are intangled in the blues.  We also cover the blues and how its influenced popular music and culture.  

My guest is the Rev. Tim Hammet.  This is a great discussion that I would love for any of my history students to listen to.  Granted in an hour it is hard to cover everything.  so I look forward to having a couple more of these discussions in the future.

Tonight we listen to Taz Brian Grant and his band the Taz Band live on IPTV's Studio Three.  I am not sure of the date, but I would put it in the  mid 90s.  It features Taz on guitar and vocals with Ed Eaves on bass, Missy DeYoung on saxaphone, Jeff Ward on trumpet, and an unknown Neil Redding on drums and Bryan Martens on keys.   This show features Taz's feel good hit of the Summer of 94 You Take My Blues Away as well as many others.

IBSC 112 John Paul and the Hell Hounds Live at the Grand Emporium

Another oldie!  Tonight we listen to a recording of John Paul and the HellHounds from around 1988-1990 at the Grand Emporium in Kansas City Misssouri.  This show was the original Hellhounds led by John Paul Drum on vocal and harmonica, with Tony Anderson on guitar, Tom Gary on piano, Joe Whitfield on bass, and John Hobbs on drums.  John Paul was opening for the great blues legend Junior Wells.  It was a great night and meeting Junior wells was amazing.
