Another blast from the past.  This was recorded 20 years ago!  Tonight we listen to John Woody Wood and Jimmy Pryor sing the blues with the Bad Boys Scott Long on guitar, Jim Farr on bass, Woody on the Drums Tom Gary on piano, and Jeff Ward on Trumpet.  We also have another mystery guitar player playing with us that night.  Not sure who he was people with good ears might be able to pick up a name.  I certainly didn't hear one myself:-)

1993 is where the time machine takes us tonight as we listen to some early studio and live recordings of the Tom Gary Blues Band.  These are so old that I don't remember recording most of them:-)   The studio recordings that come first feature Tom Gary on piano and vocal, with Billy Birch on sax, Probably Harry Michaels on guitar, and Steve Green on drums.  The two live songs were from a show at Connie's Lounge with the Tom Gary Blues Band, Jonny and the Soul Searchers, and Scotty and the Wingtips.  Unfortunately only two songs so far exist.  (I am pretty sure I have at least all of my band recorded somewhere) Those two songs feature Dave Nesvette on guitar, Billy Birch on sax, Jay Weaver on bass, and Jimmy Smith on the drums.

That is a great show, and yes we have letters!

Tonight we have a discussion of Blues its history, as well as how politics and religion are intangled in the blues.  We also cover the blues and how its influenced popular music and culture.

My guest is the Rev. Tim Hammet.  This is a great discussion that I would love for any of my history students to listen to.  Granted in an hour it is hard to cover everything.  so I look forward to having a couple more of these discussions in the future.
